According to several ”Netiquette” (Internet Etiquette), writing entire sentences, paragraphs or documents in capital letters is the equivalent of shouting. Using a conspicuous color change and bold fonts only emphasizes the ”shouting.

I can see why people would be uncomfortable with receiving e-mails like this constantly, especially in the workplace.

Whenever I asked for some clarifications from USA head office, I got my answer in red. I never thought it is for ’shouting’.

She thoroughly deserves the boot. As Michael said, netiquette to cyber world is what etiquette is to the real world. And, since cyber world is an integral part of our life these days, we can’t ignore basic acceptable behaviour.

4. DON’T SHOUT
No matter what forum, writing in all capital letters is considered SHOUTING and is considered very rude. A word or two in caps is fine, but shouting is not recommended.

Using all caps for one or two words in a sentence to emphasize them is fine, suing all caps is considered shouting in forums and e-mails.

Colors are a separate issue—sometimes a background color doesn’t sit well with a particular font color. As a red/green color-blind person I’m familiar with this, and the color combinations (page color/font color) on some web sites are impossible for me to read. Many people, particularly teenagers, think it’s “cute” to use red, purple, green or some other off-color ink, but studies have shown that it can be difficult to read and requires more concentration that reading black or blue print.

I’m not an accountant, but as a technical writer, the convention used in the field is that red font color is used exclusively for warnings. Perhaps accountants have a different approach.
